I think you are right in some ways, but have missed a key point in others. The Irish government (FF/FG/Greens) have taken a dictorial approach, refusing to listen to its people and shoehorned an estimated180,000 of mostly illegal males into towns and villages that can't support them in terms of housing and services. Peaceful protesters have be vilified in the state run media (RTE) as far right extremists and racist, and where the police force (Garda) have used extreme brutality against protesters. Bus loads of illegal immigrants arrive at night and dumped into communities without any consultation whatsoever, with the result people don't feel safe in the streets or their homes. Their are Irish citizens who have been on housing waiting lists for 20 years only to see new homes being built and then handed over to illegal immigrants as soon as they arrive. The Irish government has a policy of not asking how they got into the country, you simply turn up and ask where is your new house. Illegal immigrants get a whole range of state benefits that no Irish citizen could ever hope to have, these include free accommodation, free food, free medical card, free transport, we even pay for them to bring their pets over, they get all state welfare and benefits, and free university education etc.,. The people of Ireland are struggling with a cost of living crisis and a housing crisis and at the same time people are waltzing in from anywhere and everywhere and they have access to all of this, which we have to pay for. The Irish government now wants to introduce a hate speech law that would outlaw criticizing illegal immigrants, so you can't even complain about it. Now to why SF is bleeding support, they are on record as saying that there should be no upper limit of immigration and this has cause outrage with the party SF are in real danger of losing a hell of a lot of support.
